The presence (or absence) of women artists in books of History of Art and their impact on opening spaces and opportunities for women today
Résumé
This article aims to relate the patriarchal way Art History is presented in books and the way artists are currently exhibited, in order to find practical solutions to reduce these inequalities in the art market, pointing to structural changes in Basic Education. The driving force was the analysis of the Sistema Trilhas book (2019), for the 9th year of Elementary School, with a chapter aimed at artists while others dealt with content without female citations, leading to research in other textbooks and resulting in the title of this article. As references, studies of female contributions with names suppressed in Basic Education textbooks and the presentation of several women who contributed to the history of art from the Renaissance to contemporary times were used. As a methodology, the crossing of statistics on exhibitions in museums and galleries carried out by the São Paulo Museum of Art, Guerrilla Girls Group and researchers Dr. Ana Paula Simioni and Dr. Linda Nochlin, reported in this article, with the survey of cultural events held in the capital of Pernambuco, through the Recife Cultural Agenda in the months of January to December between the years 2019 and 2023.
